Boeing workers reject new contract, extend strike

Boeing Co. factory workers dismissed the company's latest contract offer, one that would have increased their wages by 35% over four years, choosing instead to extend the six-week strike that has crippled production.

Members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers voted 64% against the new labor deal, with the rejection proving to be yet another major setback for the company which reported a third-quarter loss of more than $6 billion on Wednesday.

Boeing workers told the Associated Press that a "sticking point" was the company's refusal to restore a traditional pension plan that was thrown out a decade ago. Roughly 33,000 workers walked off the job on September 13, originally seeking wage increases of 40%.
