Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union Steve Baker resigned on Monday as well, following in the footsteps of now-former Brexit secretary David Davis. Following the Prime Minister Theresa May’s success in winning her cabinet’s endorsement for a soft-Brexit strategy, Baker said in his resignation he "cannot support this policy with the sincerity and resolve which will be necessary."
"I am sorry that you are leaving Government, particularly at a time when we are stepping up the plans on which you have already done so much to make sure the UK is prepared for our departure from the EU in eight months’ time," May responded to his resignation in a letter. Earlier, housing minister Dominic Raab was appointed new Brexit secretary.
Meanwhile, UKIP leader Gerard Batten penned an open letter calling for May's resignation as she proved she has "no intention of delivering a genuine exit from the EU."
