Canadian Defense Minister Anita Anand announced on Monday that the government ordered 88 F-35 fighter jets from Lockheed Martin Corp. in a deal reached between Ottawa, Washington and the company.

The order is estimated at C$19 billion or US$14.2 billion and the delivery of the first four aircraft is expected in 2026, while six jets will arrive in 2027 and another six in 2028, according to Anand.

She added that Royal Canadian Air Force's full new fleet should replace CF-18 aircraft by the end of 2032.
