CDU's Merz declares victory in German election

Christian Democratic Union (CDU) leader Friedrich Merz declared his party's victory in the country's snap general election on Sunday.

After being projected to win around 29% of the vote, Merz expressed confidence that he will soon be able to "create a government capable of acting in Germany's interest."

"The world out there is not waiting for us and for lengthy negotiations," he pointed out.
