Terry Branstad, United States ambassador to China, was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday after the decision by the United States two days ago to impose punitive measures for a purchase of warplanes and air defense systems from Russia, Chinese state media reported. Also, the Ministry of National Defense expressed its "strong indignation and resolute opposition."
After they were introduced two days ago on the Equipment Development Department (EED) for defense procurements from Rosoboronexport, the statement said the move was "a flagrant breach of basic rules of international relations" and "a stark show of hegemonism."
The administration in Washington is severely harming bilateral and relations between the two armies, the defense ministry added and claimed the transactions were "normal cooperation," in line with international law. "The so-called sanctions" according to the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act needs to be withdrawn or the US will "bear the consequences," the announcement says.
