Chinese Foreign Ministry issued a warning to the United States on Friday to withdraw the recently imposed sanctions on its military or "bear the consequences."
Yesterday, an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA) sanctioned Chinese entity Equipment Development Department (EDD) and its director, Li Shangfu, "for engaging in significant transactions with Rosoboronexport, Russia’s main arms export entity." The transaction reportedly includes the acquisition of Su-35 combat aircraft in 2017 and S-400 surface-to-air missile system-related equipment in 2018.
Additionally, the US sanctioned 33 Russian intelligence and defense officials. Moscow responded earlier today by accusing Washington of "thoughtlessly stirring up global instability" with the introduction of the new measures.
