The gross domestic product (GDP) of China rose by 4.5% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2023, according to a preliminary report released by the country's National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) on Tuesday.
The data showed goods and services produced by Beijing surprised investors' expectations with the value-added of the primary industry landing at 1.16 trillion yuan, increasing 3.7% on an annual basis, while the secondary industry rose by 3.3% to reach 10.79 trillion yuan, as the tertiary industry went up by 5.4% to 16.54 trillion yuan.
The GDP increased by 2.2% over the quarter.
