Delta CEO claims IT outage losses reach $500 million

EPA/JUSTIN LANE

Delta Air Lines Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ed Bastian claimed on Wednesday that a massive IT glitch that occurred earlier this month will cost the company about $500 million.

Bastian stressed that the airline had to suspend over 4,000 flights, so the company intends to seek compensation from the disruptions. "We have no choice," he told CNBC.

Previously, a software update by cybersecurity company CrowdStrike Holdings, Inc. caused a massive IT outage and took down around 8.5 million Microsoft Windows machines around the world, which affected air transport services, banks, and media outlets.
