Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized on Thursday the country's opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), insisting that its officials are not responding to corruption allegations and are only "deceiving" the citizens with "theatrics."

Delivering remarks at the Iftar dinner, Erodgan claimed that the documents about "corruption and graft allegations in CHP-run municipalities" have been "directly transferred" to the judiciary by other CHP members.

Talking about the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, Erdogan stated that "the opposition is seeking to cover up internal mistakes with even greater ones." Turkish citizens took to the streets of Istanbul to protest Imamoglu's detention.
