Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's vote fell below 50% making it difficult for the incumbent head of state to secure victory in the first round and avoid a runoff on May 28, state news agency, Anadolu reported.
With more than 89% of votes counted, Erdogan's support fell to 49.9%, followed by Kilicdaroglu's 44.3%.
Both the ruling party and the opposition previously claimed to be ahead, casting doubts on the results offered by the other side.
