Initial results from Turkey's presidential election indicate that sitting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is leading the opposition with 53.9% of the votes, as reported by the Anadolu Agency.
His main rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu stands second with 40.1% of support. These results were derived from the tabulation of 25.69% of the total votes cast.
Erdogan had previously said he expects to win re-election in the first round and with over half of the counted votes in his favor, he appears to be in a strong position to do so. However, as more votes are counted, the margin between the candidates is likely to change.
