The Paris Prosecutor's Office shared on Friday in a statement that an investigation was opened into the arson attacks on railway systems carried out by vandals.
The prosecutors explained that they have "jurisdiction over crimes involving the deterioration of property that threaten the fundamental interests of the nation," adding that the incident in question carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison and fines of €150,000.
Meanwhile, the state-owned railway operator SNCF warned the public that traffic disruptions could go on beyond the weekend.
