The number of infections with the coronavirus surged by a record 1,222,498 during the last 24 hours, data compiled by the health authorities worldwide showed on Wednesday.
There were 6,899 deaths attributed to the virus during the same period.
In Europe, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, and Italy all saw record daily jumps, while the United States alone posted a surge of over 500,000 cases, albeit due to a backlog, in part.
