Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced on Thursday that Russia began transferring parts of its nuclear arsenal to his country.
"We had to prepare storage facilities and the rest over there. We have done all of that," Lukashenko told reporters in Moscow following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before and the Eurasian Economic Council's (EAEU) summit earlier in the day. Commenting on the security issues concerning nuclear weapons, he insisted that "[w]e bear responsibility for it ... It is a serious matter. Everything will be fine."
Lukashenko previously demanded security guarantees from Russia it would defend Belarus in case of a foreign-led invasion.
