French President Emmanuel Macron urged for a wide democratic alliance against the far-right after early projections showed the National Rally leading in the first round of France's parliamentary elections.

"Faced with National Rally, the time has come for a broad, clearly democratic and republican alliance," the French leader said in a statement.
