The Democrats' Build Back Better Act (BBBA), the piece of legislation proposing multitrillion-dollar funding for domestic social policies and fighting climate change, is "dead," according to United States Senator Joe Manchin.
The lawmaker from West Virginia, one of two Senate Democrats who opposed the bill in any form proposed so far, confirmed to Capitol Hill reporters on Tuesday that he did not have any intraparty discussions on the matter since December last year.
His congressional colleagues and the White House had previously expressed hopes that the bill will be voted on by the Senate in early 2022 after the House of Representatives had passed it in November 2021.
