United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May presented results of the meeting from Chequers to the House of Commons on Monday saying the agreement is an "ambitious proposal", but added it is in the national interest of the UK.
The proposal the cabinet agreed upon in Chequers aims at taking back control of the national borders, finances, and to protect the people of the UK, May stated. She added that the government wants to speed up the negotiations process, so the UK can leave the European Union on March 29 next year, but the cabinet is preparing for the possibility of a no-deal scenario. May stressed the importance of maintaining a soft border between Ireland and Northern Ireland, as well as the significance of UK's future control of immigration.
The government white paper is expected to be issued on Thursday, outlining future relations with the EU in detail.
