United States Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urged on Tuesday President Joe Biden to "stop the partisan stubbornness" and agree to the negotiations with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the debt ceiling.
"We should not even come within a mile of flirting with a Democratic debt default on top of all the rest," he told the Senate.
Earlier in the day, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen stated that not suspending or raising the debt ceiling would create an "economic and financial catastrophe," while Biden described default as a "totally irresponsible" option.
