ChatGPT creator OpenAI announced Tuesday that it created a tool that detects text written by another Artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the company, while it is impossible to trust the new tool absolutely, they "believe good classifiers can inform mitigations for false claims" that have been "AI-generated" to run disinformation campaigns and for academic dishonesty. Indeed, during the tests, the new classifier correctly identified "26% of AI-written text (true positives) as "likely AI-written," while incorrectly labeling the human-written text as AI-written 9% of the time (false positives)."
The news comes on the heels of Microsoft's announcement that it extended its partnership with OpenAI with a $10 billion investment. The new tool is now available on OpenAI's official website.
