United States House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is vigorously supporting the legislation which aims to block President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration, according to a letter she sent to both Democrats and Republicans, urging them to stand behind the proposal.
"I write to invite all Members of Congress to cosponsor Congressman Joaquin Castro’s privileged resolution to terminate this emergency declaration," Pelosi said, adding that the House will "move swiftly to pass the bill." She noted that US president's decision to "go outside the bounds of the law" in order to achieve what he failed to do, "violates the Constitution and must be terminated."
Pelosi confirmed earlier reports claiming that House Democrats are expected to put forward a bill on Friday aimed at blocking the Trump's national emergency declaration.
