The Russian State Duma could ratify a security and defense treaty with North Korea on October 24, a document in the Duma's electronic database showed on Wednesday.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously submitted the bill for ratification of the treaty, which was signed with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in June. The agreement stipulates that in the event of an immediate threat to either party, the affected nation can request the other to engage in bilateral consultations to coordinate their positions and "provide military and other assistance with all means in its possession without delay."
Rumors of a potential ratification of the treaty come amidst growing speculation regarding North Korea's involvement in the Ukraine war.
