The relaxation of sanctions imposed on Russia since the beginning of the war in Ukraine was not a topic of conversation between Russian and United States officials in Saudi Arabia, Russian Direct Investment Fund CEO Kirill Dmitriev (pictured), who was part of Moscow's negotiating team, told CNN on Tuesday.

"Sanctions were really not on the table for discussion," Dmitriev said. "It was just more of a process [of] how to move forward, some joint economic steps we can also do in the future, and definitely resolving different political issues," he stated, adding that both countries are open "to engage in economic and investment activities."

Previously, the US State Department revealed that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov agreed to pave the way for future investment cooperation.
