Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced on Thursday that the Democrats will soon introduce a resolution to block US President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration, which is intended to facilitate the construction of a wall on the Mexican border. The resolution is an identical companion to the one set to be filed by the Democrats in the House of Representatives as early as tomorrow, with the backing of the Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

"If the president’s emergency declaration prevails, it will fundamentally change the balance of powers in a way our country’s founders never envisioned," Schumer warned, and urged senators from both parties to support the legislation and fulfill their duty of limiting an "overreaching executive." Susan Collins, a moderate from Maine was the first GOP senator to announce support for a "clean" resolution of disapproval to Trump's emergency declaration.
