South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik underscored that the partial suspension of the 2018 inter-Korean military accord represents a "minimum defense measure" and a "proportional response" against North Korea's spy satellite launch.
"If North Korea stages provocations under the pretext of the suspension, we will respond immediately, strongly and until the end," the defense minister warned.
The remarks follow Pyongyang's earlier announcement that it will "immediately" reinstate all military measures that the country previously halted under the Comprehensive Military Agreement, a deal that was designed to de-escalate tensions along the shared border.
