South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol announced he would rescind martial law in the nation following the National Assembly's legislation overturning the state of emergency.
According to Yoon, he has summoned a Cabinet session to formally revoke martial law in accordance with the Constitution. This event signifies the first time in 44 years that martial law has been proclaimed in South Korea.
The head of state previously declared emergency martial law while addressing the nation citing the urge to "eradicate pro-North Korean forces" and maintaining the "constitutional order." Yoon's People Power Party also rejected the declaration.
