Targeting ISIS bomber, US seemingly killed aid worker - report

There are several inconsistencies about the United States officials' version of events that unfolded during the last US drone strike in Afghanistan, The New York Times reported following its investigation into the incident.

According to Washington, the retaliatory drone attack allegedly killed a potential ISIS-related terrorist who drove an explosive-laden car and was heading toward the Kabul airport. However, the driver was identified by the newspaper as Zemari Ahmadi, a longtime US aid group worker, while the alleged explosives US military claims it had seen him loading into the vehicle were likely canisters of water he intended to bring home to his family.

Furthermore, the media outlet reported that there were seven children among ten civilians who were killed in the attack, while the US acknowledges only three civilian casualties. There are also doubts about an alleged subsequent blast that the US officials claim proved explosives were in the car, as the NYT found no evidence of a secondary explosion after an in-depth investigation.
