United States President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he is prepared, "if necessary," to veto the possible repeal of his declaration of national emergency, which is up for a vote in the Senate later in the day.
He tweeted: "A big National Emergency vote today by The United States Senate on Border Security & the Wall (which is already under major construction). I am prepared to veto, if necessary. The Southern Border is a National Security and Humanitarian Nightmare, but it can be easily fixed!"
After the longest-ever government shutdown ended without a bipartisan agreement to fund the border wall with Mexico, Trump declared in February national emergency in order to get funding for the barrier with the southern neighbor without congressional approval. The House of Representatives has already voted to block Trump's declaration.
