At least 44,374 people have died and hundreds have been displaced as a result of devastating earthquakes that struck Turkey's southeast about two weeks ago, according to head of the Office for the Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters (AFAD) Yunus Sezer.
The 7.8- and 7.5-magnitude twin quakes struck the region in the span of nine hours near the Turkish border with Syria on February 6. According to Sezer, rescuers have examined over 20 thousand buildings and are currently focusing on clearing debris.
