United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Senior Communications Manager Jonathan Fowler told Al Jazeera on Tuesday that if the organization can no longer coordinate or have any kind of communication with the Israeli authorities, "then we will end up navigating in the dark."
He stressed that such humanitarian operations cannot be effective. "We are responsible for more than half of the aid coming into the Gaza Strip. We are responsible for more than half of the distributions," Fowler mentioned, adding that the ceasefire needs to continue.
Israel's ban on UNRWA, which prohibits the agency from operating in Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem, came into effect last week.
