The United States takes the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi "very seriously" and it will give the Saudis "a few more days" for the probe, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (pictured left) told reporters at the White House on Thursday, after briefing President Donald Trump on his recent visits to Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

"As we make a determination for ourselves about what happened there, based on the facts that are presented to us, the United States will determine what the appropriate response might be," the secretary stated.

Additionally, the secretary underlined that the "longstanding strategic relationship" between the US and Saudi Arabia should be taken into consideration when formulating any response.
