Senior representatives from the United States engaged in discussions with Syria's Islamist organization, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group that ousted former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, regarding the possibility of lifting international sanctions imposed on Syria and considering the removal of HTS from the US list of designated terrorist groups, as stated by the group on Friday.

The US delegation presented specific conditions regarding the removal of HTS from terrorism lists and encouraged the militia to initiate a genuine political process and to guarantee the safeguarding of minority communities within Syria.

An earlier report by Axios claimed that a US delegation, led by Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf, was set to travel to Damascus in the coming days.
