European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Monday stated that the European Union's Court of Justice (ECJ) will have a "final say" regarding the single market issues in Northern Ireland, underscoring that the newly-agreed Windsor framework will serve to improve the overall mechanism.

"It is important that the Windsor framework will put in place several mechanisms that should avoid having to restort to the Stormont Brake, which is an emergency mechanism," von der Leyen said during the joint press conference with Britain's Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

"There is a full commitment of the European Union to safeguard the Belfast Good Friday Agreement in all its dimensions [...] and to fully protect the integrity of the EU single market," European Commission head stated. Von der Leyen praised agreement between the United Kingdom and the bloc, emphasizing that it marks a "big step forward."
