Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was released Thursday after being detained by security forces in Chacao, Caracas. The incident occurred after her motorcycle convoy was intercepted as she left an anti-government protest.
According to her organization, Comando con Venezuela, Machado was forcibly removed from her motorcycle and detained under gunfire. During her captivity, she was coerced into recording several videos before being freed.
Machado is expected to speak to the nation in the coming hours to clarify the details of her detention. The events come ahead of the presidential inauguration on Friday, where both Maduro and opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez are expected to attend.
