White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby stated Monday that recently leaked Pentagon documents may have been doctored.
Reflecting on the issue, Kirby also said that "these are documents that are used by a variety of people and departments within the Department of Defense to inform their work and beyond the Department of Defense." However, he said that for the moment, the information should be treated with "caution" since the extent and scope of the leak are not known.
Earlier, the Pentagon acknowledged that if the extent of the leak were true, it would pose a "serious" risk to national security.
