The Wimbledon committee announced on Wednesday it will prohibit Russian and Belarusian tennis players from participating in the tournament this year as a response to the Ukrainian crisis.
The committee expressed their deep regrets for everyone affected by the ongoing conflict but noted the organization will comply with the guidance set out by the United Kingdom Government in order to "limit Russia’s global influence through the strongest means possible."
However, if the situation was to drastically change before the tournament begins, the committee stated it would reconsider its decision and respond accordingly.
