Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday that his country has "never bullied, oppressed, or subjugated the people of any other country, and we never will. By the same token, we will never allow anyone to bully, oppress, or subjugate China. Anyone who tries will find them on a collision course with a steel wall forged by 1.4 billion people."

Speaking at the 100th anniversary of the Chinese Communist Party, Xi asserted Beijing is striving to build "a new type of international relations... and provide the world with new opportunities," including through its Belt and Road initiative. He also addressed the issue of Taiwan and warned the international community against supporting its independence. "We must take resolution action to defeat any move towards Taiwan independence and create a bright future for national rejuvenation. No one should underestimate the resolve, the will and ability of the Chinese people to define their national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Xi stated.
