China's President Xi Jinping told African leaders on Monday that their participation in the Belt and Road Initiative would bring "win-win outcomes." In the globally oriented strategic project, also known as the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-century Maritime Silk Road, joint work should be intensified for "high-quality" outcomes that are "suited to national conditions" and "inclusive," he said at a speech dedicated to prosperity.
Speaking at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, held every three years as a so-called high-level dialogue, Xi affirmed the most populous nation's interest to support endeavors with partners in the continent with the aim to help development by strengthening infrastructure. The investments will be allocated to biggest priorities, he claimed.
Three years ago, in South Africa, he pledged to spend $60 billion. The Belt and Road Initiative includes a maritime trade route with hubs in ports in East Africa and Egypt.
