Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif (pictured) blasted Israel and the United States on Monday over their allegedly cooperated efforts to undermine the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Zarif noted it was "convenient" that US President Donald Trump's harsh criticism of the Iran nuclear deal, as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's allegations against Tehran, came just days before the deadline Trump has to decide on his country's future in the deal.
"Pres. Trump is jumping on a rehash of old allegations already dealt with by the IAEA to 'nix' the deal. How convenient. Coordinated timing of alleged intelligence revelations by the boy who cries wolf just days before May 12. But Trump’s impetuousness to celebrate blew the cover," the Iranian top diplomat tweeted. He added that Netanyahu "can only fool some of the people so many times" after his "fiasco" at the UN General Assembly.
In 2015, Iran signed the JCPOA with the US and a number of other countries, in which it agreed to curb its nuclear program in order for the other signatories to waive sanctions against Tehran. However, Netanyahu claimed Iran "lied" about not developing nuclear weapons as he demonstrated alleged evidence of the country's "secret" nuclear development.
