Volkswagen's luxury brand Audi announced Monday that it will cut 7,500 jobs in Germany by 2029 as part of a cost-reduction strategy.
The layoffs, focused on administration and development roles, are part of a broader restructuring plan to save €1 billion annually. The move is part of broader job reductions across the Volkswagen Group, which is cutting nearly 48,000 positions, including 35,000 at VW, 3,900 at Porsche, and 1,600 at software unit Cariad.
"We are focusing our team setup and consistently orienting it to the requirements of the future. We are doing this in a socially responsible targeted, step-by-step manner. To this end, we are now entering into a dialog with our employees. The employee representatives are our close partners every step of the way. Our shared Audi path makes us strong and stable," said Xavier Ros, a member of the Board of Management for Human Resources.
