Spanish lender Santander's British division revealed on Wednesday that approximately 750 jobs could be eliminated due to plans to close an additional 95 branches as part of a network reform.
"Closing a branch is always a very difficult decision and we spend a great deal of time assessing where and when we do this and how to minimize the impact it may have on our customers," a Santander UK spokesperson told CNBC.
The move will bring Santander UK's network to 349 branches starting in June 2025, including 290 full-service branches, 36 with shortened hours, 18 counter-free branches, and five Work Cafes. The decision is a component of the bank's larger aims to update its presence.
