Brazilian Federal Police indicted on Thursday former President Jair Bolsonaro and 36 other individuals on charges of attempting to organize a coup after he lost the elections in 2022 against incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The report, consisting of 800 pages, is to be delivered to the country's Supreme Court, with the Attorney General's Office to decide whether or not it wants to put the ex-head of state on trial.
Punishment for coup d'etat in Brazil ranges from four to 12 years in prison. The country's Federal Police also indicted Bolsonaro in the Saudi jewelry case, as well as for alleged fraud over Covid vaccine records, earlier this year.
