United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Friday that 75 people have contracted E. coli infections traced back to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers.
"Public health officials in multiple states are investigating an outbreak of E. coli O157:H7 infections. Most people in this outbreak are reporting eating the Quarter Pounder hamburger at McDonald's before becoming sick. It is not yet known which specific food ingredient is contaminated," the CDC added.
According to the FDA, of the 61 cases with available data, 22 individuals have been hospitalized, and there has been one fatality. Additionally, two patients have developed hemolytic uremic syndrome. As a response, the company has removed the Quarter Pounder from its menu at numerous locations nationwide.
