United Nations Grain Initiative Coordinator Amir Abdullah stressed on Monday that cargo ships can "never" be a military target, following Moscow's withdrawal from the UN-brokered grain deal in response to reported Ukraine's attack on its fleet in Crimea.
"The food must flow," wrote the grain deal coordinator on his Twitter account.
Following an investigation into an attack on the Russian fleet in Crimea, Moscow would consider rejoining the grain initiative, the Russian ministry of defense explained. Earlier, Ukraine, Turkey, and the United Nations agreed to a plan that will allow for 16 vessels to move along the grain corridor today, according to a statement by the Joint Coordination Center in Istanbul.
