Polish President Andrzej Duda announced on Thursday that his government plans to spend 4% of its GDP this year on improving defense capabilities. Speaking at the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Duda told reporters that Poland is already making purchases of weapons, including tanks, planes, and rocket launchers.
Duda previously signed a bill that pushed defense spending to 3% of GDP and doubled the number of troops to 300,000, confirming one of the highest spendings among NATO countries. The move comes in response to the crisis in Ukraine, which sparked fears of a possible escalation of the conflict throughout eastern Europe.
