The European Commission announced on Monday in a press release that it is launching its European Union Humanitarian Air Bridge operation for Gaza.
The EC noted that the operation encompasses "several flights to Egypt to bring lifesaving supplies to humanitarian organizations on the ground in Gaza." The first two flights, which will depart this week, will carry "humanitarian cargo from UNICEF including shelter items, medicines and hygiene kits," it was written in the release.
The bloc further noted that additional emergency items from the EU emergency stockpiles can be deployed immediately upon request from humanitarian partners. Earlier, the EU tripled its humanitarian assistance to Gaza.
