European Union's High Representative Josep Borrell stated after the G7 meeting that the EU is "in deterrent mode to make Russia understand that anything that could represent an attack on Ukraine would have a high price." He reiterated the G7's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Turning to China, Borrell said it represents "a strategic and ideological challenge." He stressed the union has to be "vigilant, gathering our forces in order to ensure, for example, the freedom of navigation in the South China sea where 40% of the exports of European Union pass by these waters."
