France's Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Monday that he plans to head to Brussels to explain that his country's budget deficit will be "as close as possible" to the 3% target.
European Union Economics Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said last week that France's budget deficit will be "closely monitored," especially in the light of recent announcements made by President Emmanuel Macron.
Le Maire also stated that France will impose the digital tax on tech giants doing business in the country from January 1, after an EU-wide effort to regulate the issue failed. The proposed levy of 3% on companies making more than €750 million globally was pushed by France and Germany, while Sweden, Ireland and Denmark were strongly against.
