German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said on Thursday at a press conference that he is ready to dissolve the country's parliament should that be requested.
"Now is not the time for tactics and trickery, but for reason and responsibility," he stressed, adding that all of the individuals in positions of responsibility should "rise to the challenges we face." While German Chancellor Olaf Scholz shared he would be open to snap elections taking place early next year, the opposition called for a confidence vote to be held no later than next week.
Scholz's three-way coalition has been struggling to agree on key issues, leading to the dismissal of Finance Minister Christian Lindner, whose role will now be reportedly taken by Scholz's economic adviser Joerg Kukies.
