Republican Senator Lindsey Graham (pictured) stated on Friday that United States President-elect Donald Trump would like to see a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages before his inauguration, which is expected to take place on January 20.

"I want people in Israel and in the region to know that Trump is focused on the hostages issue. He wants the killing to stop and the fighting to end," Graham told Axios in an interview, expressing hope that Trump and the Biden administration can join efforts on resolving the conflict during the transition period.

The senator emphasized that the "best insurance policy" against Hamas is not Israel reoccupying Gaza but a "reform" within Palestinian society. He argued that such reform requires the backing of Arab nations, making it essential for any peace agreement between Israel and Saudi Arabia to include a Palestinian component.
