Hegseth to make first trip to Asia next week

US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will begin his first official visit to Asia next week, with stops in Hawaii, Guam, the Philippines, and Japan, the Pentagon said on Friday. The trip aims to strengthen US ties in the Indo-Pacific.

Hegseth will meet military and civilian leaders, focusing on enhancing security cooperation. In Manila, on March 28-29, he will meet with Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro and President Ferdinand Marcos.

Hegseth will also visit US military sites in Guam and participate in the 80th anniversary of the Iwo Jima battle in Japan, highlighting the region's growing strategic importance.
